Derek Chime

Executive Director

Derek Chime is an Executive Director at Affirma Capital and is based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Prior to Affirma Capital, he was a Director at Standard Chartered Private Equity (SCPE) where he was responsible for executing and managing private equity investments across sub-Saharan Africa. He joined the team in January 2012. Before this, Derek spent close to two years as part of Standard Chartered’s Mezzanine and Alternative Solutions team which structured mezzanine growth capital and balance sheet solutions for clients in Nigeria.

Prior to Standard Chartered, Derek worked for Vetiva Capital Management Limited in Lagos, a leading investment banking boutique, as an investment banking analyst focused on executing capital market and advisory (private and public sector) mandates across Nigeria.

Derek is a non-Executive Director of Copperbelt Energy Corporation Plc and CEC Africa Investments Limited. In addition to these, he is also responsible for managing investments in 3 other portfolio companies across multiple sectors (manufacturing, telecommunications, infrastructure and financial services).

Derek is currently a candidate of INSEAD’s Global Executive MBA program (GEMBA 19) and has a BSc in Economics from the University of Lagos.
